چکیده
Considerable changes have been observed in surface waters’ quality recent years. They include an increase dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations, as well a shift of natural matter (NOM) composition favor low molecular weight (LMW), and they are expected to occur on wider scale the future. Those predictions particularly worrying given importance water main potable source for numerous communities across globe. Conventional methods treatment drinking purposes mostly focus process coagulation. The progressing waters, however, render conventional via coagulation inefficient. issue presence sources, its anticipated changes, related problems all complex pressing matters that need addressing. This paper aims provide critical review findings regarding NOM removal reference current NOM-related issues their potential solutions. discusses application different types coagulants, respective advantages disadvantages. Coagulation-integrated processes including adsorption, membrane filtration, biological processes, oxidation also addressed. Lastly, insights future approach discussed conclusions presented.

Removal of natural organic matter from aqueous solutions by electrocoagulation
Natural organic matter (NOM) affects some qualitative parameters of water such as color. In addition, it can deteriorate the performance of water treatment process including coagulation, adsorption, and membranes. NOM also reacts with chlorine in the chlorination process and may form disinfection by-products. The present study was carried out in laboratory-scale in a batch system using a cylind...
متن کاملRemoval of Natural Organic Matter (NOM), Turbidity, and Color of surface water by integration of enhanced coagulation process and direct filtration
This work assesses the efficiency of integrated enhanced coagulation and direct filtration processes for the removal of color, turbidity, and natural organic matter (NOM) from surface water. The processes were conducted in a simulated pilot. The operating conditions of the treatment process, including pH, FeCl3 dose, and influent flow, were investigated. Following that, its efficienc...
متن کاملRemoval of natural organic matter by enhanced coagulation in Nicaragua
The existence of trihalomethanes (THMs) in a drinking water plant of Nicaragua has been investigated in order to see whether the concentration exceeded the maximum contaminant level recommended by the environmental protection agency of the United States (USEPA) and the Nicaragua guidelines. The influence of pH, temperature, chlorine dose and contact time on the formation of THMs were studied. T...
متن کاملNatural organic matter and disinfection by-products formation potential in conventional and advanced water treatments
The performance of a conventional sequence (pre-ozonation, coagulation/flocculation/sedimentation, filtration, disinfection) and two advance sequences (pre-ozonation, nanofiltration; pre-ozonation, coagulation/flocculation/sedimentation, nanofiltration) on the removal of natural organic matter (NOM) and disinfection by-products (DBPs) formation potential was evaluated. Raw and treated waters we...
